The Duratorq engines were first introduced in 2000 for the Ford Mondeo range of cars. Ford Transit generally has two types of rivals like the Transporter and the Crafter from the Volkswagen, the Sprinter and the Vito from the Mercedes.

Ford Duratorq 2.2 litre engine comes with three power options, 100bhp, 125bhp and 155bhp. Six-speed manual gearbox is available on all the engines. These engines claims fuel economy of between 35 mpg to 45 mpg and carbon emissions between 178g/km to 189g/km. These figures are higher than Volkswagen Transporter which offers fuel consumption between 32mpg to 40mpg and carbon emissions between 166g/km to 240g/km.
